Hawk Mountain is a pretty remarkable place, and it’s a place that has some history for us, which is why we chose it for this event. Hawk Mountain was founded in 1934 by Rosalie Edge, Rebecca’s great-grandmother, and is the world’s first sanctuary for raptors. It turns out that Gil’s aunt Rose, who died last year, was also a huge fan and regular visitor to the mountain. Rosalie Edge was a remarkable and eccentric person. If you want to learn more about her and the story of how Hawk Mountain came into being, you should check out Dyana Furmansky’s book: Hawk of Mercy.
